I was so excited to launch our playing cards that I had to make something beautiful in which to store them. This is a box that you will want to have on display.
Our Classic double cards box features Alexandra’s signature abstract design, translated in two favourite varieties of wood that she regularly returns to in her marquetry creations: rich, warm walnut and rippled sycamore.
Handmade by Alexandra’s highly skilled master joiners, the marquetry is perfectly aligned for a seamless finish where the lid meets the box, which is further elevated with thoughtful design details, including polished brass hinges and intricate dovetail joints on the removable wooden tray.
Hand-drawn by Alexandra before being translated in wood, the design honours the suits in a pack of cards. The marquetry expert recreates the “trompe l’oeil” effect in Alexandra’s design using a technique known as hot sand shading, which brings a beautiful sense of three-dimensionality to the inlaid cards on the sides of the box.
The wooden tray is designed to neatly store two packs of our limited-edition Signature cards in two different colourways. To keep track of your card games, the tray lifts up to reveal a Signature score pad, which is printed with some of Alexandra’s best-known designs on sustainable Colorplan paper.
