How do you ship and how much does it cost?

We use both Royal Mail and DHL Express. You will receive an email with tracking details once your order has been despatched.
Please see the below table of shipping costs in GBP£ for signature products. Shipping costs are per board. For one or more playing card sets, dice and playing pieces, the shipping cost is the same. Complimentary shipping within the UK is for signature products only. Please see information on shipping zones here.

Which payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Google and Apple Pay.   We also accept payment via bank transfer, please contact us for our details.

Do prices include VAT? (UK sales tax)

All prices on our website include 20% VAT (UK Sales tax). If you are shipping outside the UK, VAT will be automatically deducted at checkout.  To view our products excluding VAT, add a product to your basket and enter a shopping location outside the UK.

What are import/custom duty charges?

Import/Custom duties is a tax collected on imports by a country’s custom authorities. Please contact customs at your chosen shipping address country for their rate. These will need to be paid to the local office prior to delivery.

How long will it take to receive my order?

All items in stock on the website will be dispatched within 2-5 working days unless otherwise stated.  Personalised items will take an additional 7 days.  Shipping times depend on your destination and local customs controls. Please contact us directly if you need your order for a specific date

What if a product is out of stock?

Please see the re-stock lead-time for an individual product on our site.

What is your returns policy and how do I return an item?

You are able to return your order within 14 days of receipt, at your own expense. The product will need to be in its original packaging and in perfect and unused condition.

Please note that any personalised, bespoke or made-to-order products cannot be returned.

Please contact us prior to returning your item.  We recommend a tracked DHL or FedEx service with appropriate protective packaging

Where are your products made?

Our products are hand-crafted in the UK by small independent artisans.
Superior suppliers in Portugal craft our leather playing pieces and shakers with our travel boards crafted in Spain and our playing cards in China.

Am I able to personalise my order?

Our full-size tournament and travel-size backgammon boards, chess set, poker box, playing pieces and double cards boxes can all be personalised.

Our standard lead time for personalisation is 2 weeks. If your order is urgent, please contact us directly.
Our design team will send you a digital mock-up of the engraving for approval.

Can I order a backgammon board from the online shop in a different wood?

Yes, we have a variety of woods in stock. If you prefer a lighter or darker wood to match your decor, get in touch and we will send you some options. Once we have confirmed availability, you can simply place your order online.

Do you have any other designs available that are not listed on the website?

Yes, we have an extensive archive of designs that can be made to order on request. If you are looking for a specific theme or colour scheme, please contact us directly.

Do you make a range of products?

Yes we do. We have made an extensive range of custom creations – furniture, mirrors, jewellery boxes and cigar humidors, to name a few. Please contact us with your idea and will be delighted to show you examples.

What is a bespoke ‘commissioned’ order?

It is a completely custom-made game (or product), designed by Alexandra, exclusively for you, your recipient or your brand. You can learn more about the Bespoke Process here.

Pricing depends on the product, materials and techniques used.  Bespoke photographic backgammon boards begin at £14,000 (inc VAT) and marquetry backgammon boards from £22,000 (inc VAT). Our bespoke games tables begin at £38,000 (inc VAT). 

The lead times for our bespoke items vary between 4 and 16 weeks. Please contact us for further information. 

Can I visit Alexandra Llewellyn’s Studio?

We are based in Belgravia, London and would love to see you. It is by appointment only, please drop us a line to arrange this.

Will my order come with a Certificate of Authenticity?

With the exception of our playing cards, every Alexandra Llewellyn product comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Do you offer gift-wrapping and gift messages?

Our products are carefully gift-wrapped in an elegant presentation box with black ribbon. Backgammon sets are presented in a black cotton velvet bag and travel sets in a black Alexandra Llewellyn slipcase.  Do add a personalised message to your order at checkout or drop us a line with any special requests.

How do I store my game and playing pieces?

Please store in a dry place and avoid contact with humidity and dampness and exposing the game to extended periods of sunlight and heat. We recommend keeping your game in the sleeve supplied when not in use. 

Our natural semi-precious stone playing pieces could chip if not handled with care. Be sure to store them in the tray or compartment in your game. Do not leave them loose within your games set. 

How should I clean my game?

For regular cleaning, we would suggest using a micro-fibre cloth to lightly dust and remove finger marks and other impurities from our wooden products. Leather products should be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution and left to dry naturally.

Is my game waterproof?

Unfortunately not.  Our products are hand-lacquered to protect the wood and leather but knocks or wet spills can dent or stain the surface. If exposed to water, do not dry with direct heat. Mop up any spills immediately with a clean cloth.
