Introduced to Europe from the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century, tulips were once worth more than their weight in gold. Symbolic of deep love, the design features some of Alexandra’s favourite varieties, from classic goblet-shaped tulips to spectacular fringed blooms.

Housed in a box crafted from oak sustainably sourced from a tree that once grew in London, the natural warmth of the wooden playing surface contrasts beautifully with the vibrancy of the photographic artwork overlaying it, with the brilliant colours of the tulips and veined marble triangles recreated with stunning photorealism upon the board.

UK-based artisans oversee every stage in the creation process, including a master joiner, a leather artist and an authority in hand-lacquering. Using archival inks to reproduce exactly the intricate patterning of the tulips’ petals, Alexandra’s artwork is digitally printed on the board by a fine art printer, after which it is polished and sealed for a matte satin finish.
