Summer has arrived with the Marina Travel Backgammon Set, inspired by Ibiza’s white sand beaches and iridescent waters. The playing surface is imprinted with the gentle, lapping waves of the Mediterranean, with semi-precious amethyst and rock crystal playing pieces that capture the true bohemian spirit of the White Isle.

I have such fond memories of sunny days in Ibiza, hunting out the island’s most hard-to-reach coves. With the design for my Marina Travel backgammon set, I wanted to capture the excitement of finding one of Ibiza’s hidden gems and being able to sit down on the beach for a game of backgammon in complete seclusion.

IMMACULATELY CRAFTED

Handmade by specialist leather craftsmen in Spain, the sun glitter created by sunlight reflecting off the waves is reproduced on the calf leather playing surface with crystal-clear clarity. A hippy haven for decades, the board is inlaid by hand with patterned malachite triangles as a nod to the alternative lifestyle that is embraced by many on the island.

ISLAND MAGIC

Alexandra’s favourite Spanish destination is brought to life upon the backgammon board, with lapping wavesthat glint in the sun, accompanied by some unexpected guests. Two sharks prowl just beneath the surface – a light-hearted addition to Ibiza’s famously safe waters that captures the thrill and tension of the game.

Presented with semi-precious playing pieces in rock crystal, the stone of awareness, and healing and calming amethyst, it opens to reveal a calf leather box containing the playing pieces, dice and doubling die.
