Handcrafted using extraordinary, sustainable materials, an Alexandra Llewellyn game is for those who value rarity in its most authentic form.
It is very important to Alexandra that the boxes of our backgammon sets look just as beautiful closed as they do open. Selected for their distinctive grains, inherent patterns and variety of colours, all of our woods are ethically sourced and sustainable, from knotty, pippy London oak to deep and lively fumed eucalyptus.
The individual qualities of our different playing surface materials make a big difference to the gaming experience.
Hundreds of miniature pieces of wood, inlaid into the surface of the board, offer a rich and melodic playing experience, with the gloss finish accentuating the colours and grains of the different marquetry woods.
Creating a satisfying click-clack sound as the playing pieces are counted around the board, bring a sense of occasion to the game with a wooden playing surface, printed in high-definition detail by a fine art printer in the UK.
Leather offers a quieter game. The smoothness of the material allows the pieces to move effortlessly around the board and tempers the noises traditionally associated with backgammon for a softer playing experience.
I personally select all of the materials we use — explore some of the most extraordinary examples below.
ALEXANDRA llewellyn
Alexandra personally sources the different semi-precious stones for our playing pieces, seeking out those with the most distinctive patterns and colours.
Selected for their superior suppleness and blemish-free appearance, our leathers are sustainably sourced and manufactured in the UK.
We take time creating very small quantities of truly exceptional pieces, with the natural beauty of the materials always celebrated and very much on show.
ALEXANDRA LLEWELLYN
Our luxury games are produced in very small quantities, predominantly in artisanal workshops within the UK, resulting in very little waste. The veneers and woods used in our marquetry creations are traceable back to their original source — a numbered tree.
