A striking centrepiece in a snug or study, the Geometrix poker set is a reflection on the nature of geometry itself. Featuring tessellating abstract shapes – one of the seven key elements of art – inlaid by hand into the wood marquetry box, this playful and original work of art was inspired by the iconic Majolica tiles designed by the acclaimed Italian architect Gio Ponti.

Our extraordinary marquetry artist has used the natural characteristics of the different woods to tell a powerful design story that is rooted in geometry, one of the earliest fields of mathematics, bringing a wonderful warmth and texture to this bold composition of shapes and symbols.

PERFECT GEOMETRY

Inspired by Alexandra’s love of geometry, the basis of many classic board games, the Geometrix poker set features a recurring pattern of shapes and symbols, realised by a master of the art of wood marquetry. Enveloping the entire box, the craftsmanship is impeccable, with each piece of wood inlaid by hand to flawlessly tessellate.

CHARACTERFUL WOODS

Four different sustainable woods have been inlaid within the design, hand-picked by Alexandra for their uniformity of colour and the quality of their graining, with the swirling patterns that swim within burled walnut, the elegant stripes of American black walnut, the tiny knots of bird’s eye maple and the strong grain and beautiful lustre of sycamore combining to create a wonderful contrast of textures.

PURE LUXURY

Housing 305 traditional clay poker chips, custom made by the oldest poker chip makers in the US, and two packs of Alexandra’s Signature geometric playing cards, the dealer button is carved from semi-precious turquoise, laser engraved with the letter D, and the blind buttons cut from iridescent mother of pearl.

BOX OF SURPRISES

The incredible attention to detail continues within the box, with squares of satin walnut inlaid on the inside lid to create a distinctive basketweave effect and the classic suits in a pack of cards arranged in the centre. Behind each of the four suits, the marquetry artist has created a trompe l’oeil effect using a piece of wood selected for its darker tone, introducing a beautiful sense of three-dimensionality.
