THE FINER DETAILS

Crafted by a master joiner from fumed eucalyptus, the box opens to reveal a wooden tray that stores two packs of our limited-edition Signature cards, with space beneath for our turquoise score pad. Designed to keep track of your card games, the pages of the score pad are printed with some of Alexandra’s most-loved designs on sustainable Colorplan paper.

BUTTERFLY, BUTTERFLY

In the warmer months, the British countryside teems with butterflies – a signature Alexandra Llewellyn motif. Inlaid with a spotted butterfly on the lid, a mother-of-pearl butterfly inside and a honeybee on the front, some of summer’s most-welcome sights are brought to life in intricate marquetry on our Butterfly Playing Cards Box.

THE ART OF MARQUETRY

Alexandra’s signature geometric chevron triangles wrap around the box and cover the inside of the lid, highlighting the unique grain patterns of the dyed birdseye maple wood. Unfurling its wings across the lid, the inlaid butterfly is imbued with a beautiful sense of three-dimensionality, which is achieved using a marquetry technique known as hot sand shading.

EXQUISITE CRAFTMANSHIP

The marquetry has been perfectly aligned for a seamless join where the lid meets the box, which is handmade by Alexandra’s highly skilled master joiners to incorporate beautifully considered design details, including polished brass hinges and intricate dovetail joints on the removable wooden tray.
