I am always influenced by my surroundings and collect fabrics on my travels, with denim a particular favourite. I love its universality – how it has crossed national and cultural boundaries to become one of the most highly sought-after fabrics. The geometric triangles on the board were also inspired by the world of fabrics, specifically a beautiful piece of vintage Uzbeki Ikat that I found in the markets of Marrakech, and which is displayed on the wall of my studio.

TEXTURED TWILL

Inspired by Alexandra’s adventures in California, the birthplace of denim, the fabric’s classic twill weave is reproduced with incredible clarity on the calf leather playing surface, juxtaposed with alternating turquoise and tessellated triangles in jewel-like tones – one of our most popular design motifs.  

CALIFORNIA DREAMING 

In the 1850s, during the Gold Rush, Levi Strauss began manufacturing durable denim workwear in San Francisco. A century later, the fabric became a fashion favourite when Hollywood heart-throbs Marlon Brando and James Dean were immortalised in denim in the cult films The Wild One and Rebel Without a Cause.
