The Space Race

The 1960s was a period of great technological advances. From Neil Armstrong stepping foot onto the Moon to the first video games console, the space-age toys that were so popular with children at the time embodied this exciting new age of innovation and exploration.

The twilight zone

Archival photographs of authentic tin toys from the 1960s, including a mechanical walking Robot-7 by Noguchi and a rare Interkosmos CCCP Space Rocket from the Soviet Union, made in Hungary, are reproduced with extraordinary clarity on the playing surface of the backgammon board.

IN GLORIOUS TECHNICOLOUR

An exact reproduction of Alexandra’s retro-futuristic design, the vintage robots and rockets are pictured on a space-inspired playing surface dotted with thousands of stars. Printed on the board by a fine art printer using archival inks, the board is lacquered by hand for a smooth, matte satin finish.

Bringing play to life

Designed to enhance our Signature backgammon sets, elevate your playing experience with semi-precious pieces. For her Robot backgammon set, Alexandra recommends banded malachite and, to match the colour of the triangles on the board, red jasper, with personalisation of the pieces available.
