An exquisite conversation piece featuring a flower forever associated with feminine beauty, the Calla lily is the subject of our exquisite, limited-edition backgammon board, created in collaboration with the Terrence Higgins Trust.
Collaborating with the Terrence Higgins Trust was a real honour. The UK’s leading HIV and sexual health charity, we worked together to find a fitting tribute to their vital work: the Calla lily, an ancient fertility symbol and flower I have long adored for its graceful shape.
20% of the sale of each Lily backgammon board is donated to the Terrence Higgins Trust. Founded in 1982, the Trust works tirelessly to end the transmission of HIV in the UK, to empower and support people living with HIV to lead healthy lives and to enable all people to enjoy good sexual health.
With a name that originates from the Greek word for “beautiful”, the Calla lily is among the most elegant flowers in the floral kingdom. Alexandra’s design features images she collected of the Calla lily that highlight the sensual form of their trumpet-like petals.
The striking colours and photorealism of the Calla lilies are complemented by the natural warmth and distinctive, striped grain of Macassar ebony wood, which is used to handcraft the box and features on the printed triangles on the board.
A limited series of just 10 backgammon sets, each board is presented with a Macassar ebony wood doubling die and semi-precious black marble and mother of pearl playing pieces, personally chosen by Alexandra to complement the minimalist design.
Each elegant flower is reproduced with perfect clarity upon the board by a printer who specialises in the high-quality reproduction of fine art, using archival inks to reproduce perfectly the nuances of colour and sculpted form of the lily and its stems.
